For the second year in a row, Springboard for the Arts and the Salt Lake Arts Council presented a free, three-day professional development for artists series entitled, "How to Thrive as an Artist". On the evenings of March 12th through March 14th, 2024, artists and creative enthusiasts gathered at Finch Lane Gallery to dive into crucial aspects of professional growth under the guidance of Springboard for the Arts’ Career Consultant, Dana Sikkila.

The "sold out" series began with a hands-on Marketing Workshop, where participants explored strategies to define their artistic product, identify target audiences, and master effective selling techniques. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, attendees gained valuable insights into promoting their work and connecting with audiences in meaningful ways.

The Pricing Workshop provided artists with a comprehensive approach to pricing their creations. Acknowledging the complexity of the art market, participants learned to navigate pricing strategies tailored to their unique business models. Armed with newfound clarity, artists left equipped to make informed decisions that support their artistic endeavors.

Culminating the series was the anticipated Curator & Gallery Director Panel, featuring esteemed panelists: Jared Steffensen, Curator of Exhibitions at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art; Venessa Castagnoli, Executive Director of Ogden Contemporary Arts; and Roxanne Gray, Director of 801 Salon. Their wealth of experience and insights into curation and exhibition opportunities enriched discussions, offering invaluable guidance to artists seeking exposure and growth in the art world.

The panel discussion was an opportunity for attendees to gain insights directly from curators representing both large institutions and community-based galleries. From discussing their selection processes to providing valuable guidance for artists, the panelists' contributions added depth and richness to the event.

We thank you for your enthusiastic support and participation in the "How to Thrive as an Artist" series! We look forward to continuing this journey of growth and creativity together in future artist opportunities.
