Mexican Paper Flowers
Saturday May 20th, 12:30 – 1:30 pm
Located in Classroom A in downstairs of the Library
Made from tissue paper or crepe paper with beautifully vibrant colors, Mexican paper flowers can be seen in a variety of celebrations from weddings to parties. Frances Rogers learned this craft from her Aunt Dolores, and has made it a central mission of hers to pass this knowledge on to others. She loves working with young adults and emphasizes how powerful it is to embrace one’s culture, and instill confidence in their talents and knowledge.
Argentinian Tango
Saturday May 20th, 1:30 – 2:30 pm

Originating during the 19th century in the capital city of Buenos Aires, Argentinian tango places emphasis on improvisation and the relationship between dancers. Reflective of the multicultural makeup of the country, the roots of Argentinian tango lie in African candombe, Cuban habanera as well as waltzes and polkas from Europe. In this workshop, Pablo Montes of Utah Argentine Tango will lead an introduction to this dance.
Chinese Calligraphy
Saturday May 20th, 2:30 – 3:30 pm

Chinese calligraphy is the writing of Chinese characters as an art form. Dating back to around 200 BCE, Chinese calligraphy is deeply embedded within the fabric of China’s history, culture, intellectual, and social life. In this workshop, participants will receive an introduction to this art form, under the direction of Xu Wu of the Salt Lake Eastern Art Club.
