Throughout the summer of 2026, seven new community-based art projects have been installed across Salt Lake City. Funded by the Salt Lake City Council, the Salt Lake City Arts Council’s Public Art Program worked with seven local artists to install one new temporary artwork in each City Council district, reaching every corner of Utah’s Capitol city. Projects were developed in partnership with neighborhood organizations, libraries, businesses, and community groups, allowing each district to identify creative opportunities that reflected local priorities and available public spaces.
Investment in Public Art Makes Community Impact
The SLC Stories pilot project demonstrates the impact that small-scale, community-driven public art investments can have in strengthening neighborhood identity and activating public spaces throughout Salt Lake City. Through the collaboration of artists, neighborhood organizations, libraries, businesses, and community partners, the program supported a diverse range of artistic approaches that reflect the unique character and priorities of each City Council District.
Salt Lake City Council's investment in this project created opportunities for local artists and community partners to lead meaningful, place-based public art projects, illustrating how modest, flexible funding can foster creativity, strengthen partnerships, and celebrate the distinct stories of neighborhoods across Salt Lake City.
The Seven Projects
District 1
Fly with Purpose Mural by Bill Louis
Jayhawks House, 445 North 1300 West
Completed July 2026
Community organization Jayhawks House partnered with artist Bill Louis to create a mural celebrating community identity and the organization’s mission. The project transformed a visible neighborhood location through a large-scale painted artwork designed to engage residents and visitors.
District 2
Weaving Cultures Fence Installation by Liberty Blake

Completed June 2026
The Glendale Neighborhood Council partnered with artist Liberty Blake to create a community fence-weaving installation that reflects neighborhood diversity and shared experiences. The project activated an existing public-facing space while inviting community connection through color, pattern, and participation.
District 3
You Are Here Sidewalk Clings by Lunares & Sister Collective
Salt Lake City Public Library, Marmalade Branch, 280 West 500 North
Completed July 2026
The Salt Lake City Public Library partnered with Lunares and Sister Collective to install You Are Here, a sidewalk artwork that brings joy and color into the pedestrian environment surrounding the Marmalade Branch. The project demonstrates how smaller-scale interventions can enhance and bring joy into everyday public spaces.
District 4
Community Bee Sculpture by Landon Kraczek
Main Street at Regent Street intersection
Installation anticipated by September 2026
This community-informed project by artist Landon Kraczek will develop a large-scale bee sculpture featuring a custom-painted design that reflects the unique identity and character of District 4. The installation will add a distinctive public art element to a shared civic space while celebrating neighborhood stories, creativity, and community connection. A companion sculpture will be installed in District 6.
District 5
We Are Starlings Window Murals by Brooke Smart
9th & 9th Business District storefronts
Completed July 2026
The 9th & 9th Business District partnered with artist Brooke Smart to install a series of starling-inspired window murals across several storefronts. The cohesive design was installed across multiple businesses to create a connected public art experience that celebrates community and place.
District 6
Community Bee Sculpture by Landon Kraczek
Salt Lake City Public Library, Anderson-Foothill Branch, 1135 South 2100 East
Installation anticipated by September 2026
This community-informed project by artist Landon Kraczek will bring a large-scale, custom-painted bee sculpture to the Salt Lake City Public Library’s Anderson-Foothill Branch, creating a vibrant public art experience within a neighborhood gathering space. The installation reflects the unique identity and character of District 6 while expanding opportunities for residents to experience public art in an accessible, community-centered setting. A companion sculpture will be installed in District 4.
District 7
Sidewalk Ornament by Sophie Arango Nebeker
1066 East 2100 South

The Sugar House Community Council partnered with artist Sophie Arango Nebeker to create a sidewalk-based artwork that adds a temporary creative activation to the Monument Plaza area. The project, which was activated in conjunction with the Sugar House Art Walk, demonstrates the potential for small-scale installations to enhance pedestrian environments and community events.
