The Arts Council is proud to once again partner with Spy Hop to present one week of the Brown Bag Concert Series curated, marketed, produced and live recorded entirely by youth ages 15-19 as a part of their 801 Sessions program. This week long residency will provide performance opportunities for five young acts as well as valuable experience in event planning, marketing, artist management, live-performance production for those participating. The other fifteen slots will come from the pool of interested artists that have applied.
Interested artists should consider the following:
• All performing arts disciplines are eligible to apply (music, choral, dance, cultural presentations, etc.)
• All concerts are held outdoors. Performers will be placed in the shade or under a suitable covering. If your group has additional needs, these must be discussed with program staff before agreeing to participate.
• There is no formal stage; most performances will take place on concrete, brick, or grass surfaces.
• The Salt Lake City Arts Council will provide a PA and monitor system and a qualified sound engineer. Artists must provide all necessary instruments and backline equipment.
Artists selected to perform at the 2017 Brown Bag Concert Series will be awarded artists’ fees based on the amount of performers in a group and will be scaled accordingly. Payment for each Brown Bag concert will be made by check and mailed following the performance.
A review committee is selected each year and is composed of Salt Lake City Arts Council Board Members, Arts Council staff, and community members with knowledge of performing arts and the community-at-large.
In early June, committee members review and select the 2017 Brown Bag program participants based on the following criteria:
• Completed application
• Artistic quality
• Applicant availability
• The overall diversity of the lineup
Please note that while past participation does affect the committee’s decisions, those groups that have participated in the past are not guaranteed acceptance.
Artists will receive notification of committee decisions in late June.
